Bent Oaks Church of Christ
Rockport, Texas
“Who Are We”
It is our desire to be
the church that is described in the New Testament. (1 Cor. 1:2, Rom.
16:16, I Tim. 3:15, & Heb. 12:23) When was the church established?
About 2,000 years ago on a Jewish feast day called the “Pentecost”. (Acts
2:1) Peter the apostle preached to a large crowd of faithful Jews about the
death and resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah.
They understood that even though they personally may not have had a hand
in the crime, they were all guilty of sin. The crowd, feeling convicted
asked “what shall we do?” Peter answered,
“Repent and be baptized – everyone of you.” About 3,000 souls were
baptized and added to the Church that day. (Acts 2:37-40)
We
are an independent group, desiring only to be Christ’s Church that He Purchased
with his blood. He is the head,(1 Cor. 11:3) we belong to him. We
do not seek to be associated with any denomination, but seek only to be part of
His Body. We are added to Christ’s
Church by studying, believing his story, seeing that our condition is hopeless
without him and by being baptized (immersed) in water for the remission of our
sins. We then come out of the water washed – a new creature in
Christ. The Lord adds daily, to His
church, those who are being saved (Acts 2:47)
We
are a very active and dedicated Group looking forward to every opportunity to
enjoy each other’s company to strengthen, edify and study God’s word.
While we are not affiliated with the “community church” movement, we love and
serve our community. Members commute
from several surrounding cities and
towns to form one Body of Believers. We
especially look forward to the return of our Winter Texans, our extended
families from various parts of the United States who often spend several weeks
or months here. We invite anyone who is looking for a Church family,
whether you’re seeking a place to visit or
a permanent place of Worship, to please come visit us.
We
Sing (Col.3:16), We Pray (Acts 2:42), We Give (1 Cor. 16:1-2), We Teach (Acts
2:42), We Edify (Eph. 4:11-16), We take care of our needy saints (Rom.
15:25-26) and most importantly, we take Communion each Sunday; remembering what
our Lord has done for us (1Cor. 11:23-29).
Our Goal “Eternal Life With Christ” Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:1-12
